Ragda Izar, MD
I am a fourth-year medical student at Wayne State University applying to psychiatry residency.
I’m Egyptian-American and was born and raised in the Southwest Chicago suburbs near one of the largest Arab-American communities in the country.
I am interested in mental healthcare access in Muslim and Arab communities as well as child psychiatry, intergeneration trauma, and health equity and justice.
Volunteering with the amazing team at the STARC lab, specifically through the Stress Risk and Resilience of the Syrian and Iraqi Survivors of Torture project, has allowed me to combine many of my interests and work closely with communities that have shaped my identity, upbringing, and goals as a physician and advocate.
